The St. Johns River watershed has many lovely country roads designated in the Florida Scenic Highway program.
From north to south, be sure to tour:
- William Bartram Scenic and Historic Highway
Close to Jacksonville and St. Augustine, follow State Road 13 along the east side of the St. Johns River in northwest St. Johns County for a visit to "Old Florida."
- The J.C. Penney Memorial Scenic Highway
This drive is just west of the picturesque town of Green Cove Springs on the west side of the St. Johns River in Clay County.
- River of Lakes Heritage Corridor
Visit historic towns, lakes and springs along the St. Johns River in western Volusia County.
- Florida Black Bear Scenic Byway
Running like a cross through the Ocala National Forest, state forests and conservation area, this route takes you along beautiful wilderness and quaint towns around the St. Johns River. The website provides history, adventure and nature descriptions.
